A couple of days ago I posted this from my sketchbook. Something I started a while ago and wanted to come back to. Well, I did the other night. Still a work in progress, and my hands were kind of shakey trying to do perfect circles… But still, the inking is going pretty good i think.
art-to-be
Another page from my sketch book. Had completely forgotten about this one. I love it and want to finish it. Scanner is not working today, so have to make due with the phone cam.
Whats interesting, while trying to get a good picture of it, i tried various setting on my camera. one of those was negative:
Then i put it through the GIMP to try and define the lines better. Want to get a decent vector off of it, but didn’t try to hard. But, while I was messing around, i made it a bit too blue:
Pretty cool though huh? I am going to try and clean it up a little more and make it look like awesome robot blueprints.
When the final” Alien Invasion (I mean) Assistance” comes, I will of course, hail and welcome with open arm our new Alien Overlord Oppressors (I mean Protectors, of course).
Be not affraid of alien or robot who decide to rule with iron fist or claw, for they only do it for humanity’s own good, and the best of intentions for Earth’s young species…
Tonight’s ‘Creative Output’ is something I’ve considered doing for some time now. Selling some stuff!
I spent last night and most of today creating designs for and opening a storefront at Cafe Press.

Now you can be the first on your block to own…. this:
or these:Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā
And other fine merch emblazoned with ‘Robot Meat’ original art.
Seriously though, I think this is a pretty big step for me. Not just to create something, and to send it out into the world, but to see if anyone will actually want to plunk down coinage for it. This year has been pretty interesting in a lot of different ways for me. One thing i decided early on in 2010 was that I would try to ramp up my creativity. I’ve done that in different ways, writing this blog on a fairly regular basis for one. And everything from my ‘Doodles of the Day’ and the more informal ‘Creative Output’ posts, pretty much the opposite of my old early 20’s approach, drawing and painting, then hiding it all in the closet.
The options available at the store are fairly limited right now, and i consider this attempt to be in Beta. As I progress and post more content I will expand the store as well. Maybe if I think there is enough interest in the store I’ll do something else with a POD site and have prints and things…. but thats getting the cart ahead of the llama, if you know what I mean!
Something I found under a pile of stuff that was actually recovered from the Infamous Coffee Spill of the other day. If i find anything else, I’ll be sure to post it.
This started out as a little robot guy, but as I doodled in between running reports this morning he kind of evolved and sprouted a buttload of arms, so I figured, why not! It’s a Beholder.
[UPDATE: I’m still trying to upload the picture, but the WP app crashes every time. Probably have to wait until I get home.]
[UPDATE2: OK, trying this again, only from home on the POS laptop…]
[Success! W00t!]
Tonight’s ‘Creative Output’ is in the form of a couple of remixes on my own work, and some scans that I did today.
I was going back through 2 of the sketch books that I’ve been keeping this year and scanning the pics in. You will notice that earlier versions which appear on the ‘Meat are crappy photos taken with my phone and then emailed to myself. I’ve never been happy with the way some of this stuff comes out, so it’s nice to be able to go back and get higher res. versions and clearer pictures of what I’ve been doing. On some of these I will provide a little commentary, in case some one hasn’t been following along.
Also, please provide suggestions or criticisms (note also that these are mostly just sketches, and don’t count *as* much as they would had I actually spent significant time on them)… one thing I want to know is: Would You Want This on a T-Shirt? or a hat…
or a mug..
or a scarf..
or a busted statue???
[As Always, Click For Enlargered… or ‘To Embiggen’ as Wil Wheaton is fond of saying – I also encourage anyone to wade through the massive collection of uploads where all of my digitized art currently lives here on tah intrawebs…]
Part one, 12 year old paintings.
Detail from a slight remix of a painting I did way back in ’99. I believe it is acrylic on canvas, i used a LOT of black and white, simply because thats what my style was at the time. Everything i did back and white, or red and black or… haha, who am i kidding? I still love those combinations! Anyway, if you want to see a nice digital representation of the actual and full painting, click the thumbnail below.

Tonight’s creative output is not an Imperial Walker. Reasons being 1) he has no feet. And 2) he’s going to have chrome to spare!
I was looking back at the little hot rod doodle from last month, and I really want to do something huge like that. So this will be a kind of an attempt to do 50s sci-fi flying car style chrome. You know, huge bumpers, and just very flashy…. hard to describe. Old school muscle cars maybe like fords and chevys from 60 years ago, or the cabs from the Fifth Element?
[UPDATE: new scans can be found by clicking the thumbnails below. thanks!!]
