I remember reading this a while back, I think it was in the late nineties when I first read it, probably only a couple of years ago, but it feels like decades. I recently went back to the Dilbert website and started going through old cartoons. When I found this, I had to share.
Storyline is basically that Ratbert starts working at Dilbert’s company:
he goes around doing completely short-sighted and useless things to try and save money, but only succeeds in making work life harder for the engineers. Eventually:
(ha! ‘Deviant’ computer users!!! Mentality of the mid-nineties: If it ain’t Windows, it’s CRAP!)
People ask what kind of computer I use , I say Linux, they say ‘what?’, and I say “Here’s a nickel kid…”
The last cartoon shows why GNU/Linux computers aren’t used more frequently in the media and television:
OK, maybe it doesn’t completely explain it. Heck, there was a movie recently with Ashton Kutcher where his spy character used a T-Mobile G1 to do awesome spy-stuff. And now everybody and my brother has a little Linux computer in their hand (Under the name ‘Droid of course) You never know where the Unix spawn will show up next.
Hola people who like… stuff.
I have two new designs out this week at the ‘ol Assorted Robot Meats Cafe Press Store . As a regular reader of this blog you WILL recognize these as having been posted in the past.
Robot's Balloons, as seen on a nice gray shirt.
Robot Has Lost His Balloons
One is what I promised earlier, a version of “Robot’s Balloons,” which features a simple, child-like robot chasing after his lost balloons. It’s one of the first crop of circular headed robots that was actually thought out, and not just, you know, thrown at a yellow note pad. It is also a drawing that was inspired by my lovely-talented-and-super-awesome wife. She suggested that if I was going to draw a robot that it be neither scary, mean, nor stupid. And there you have it!
Design #2 this week is the ‘cute-yet-pathetic-almost-baby-bird-like’ guy from a couple weeks ago. I like him, even though I have no idea what to call him. Which reminds me:
This week, if you have a few spare minutes, have a run through the MAS ART Archive located conveniently: HERE. I’m looking for titles, captions, comments, etc. Whatever floats your boat really. The best stuff will become the actual title of that work, and maybe some other stuff will happen involving all of the known Universe not being vaporized by some half-cat’s bad poetry being read to a Vogon, or something. who knows.
Ok, well that wraps up this post, thanks again and don’t forget to check out the STORE!
“And should I ever garner triple-digit fans,
You can tell me then there’s someone I ain’t indier than…”
–MC Frontalot (Indier Than Thou)
Woo hoo! We made it to the double digits the other day. 17 people read something on my blog last Saturday. Incredible isn’t it? Most days we don’t get more than 4 or 5 views, and a LOT of days we get ZERO. What’s really cool though is that some of these came from search engines, or other sites. I’m not going to ruin it by breaking down how many spam comments I got, or anything like that. Mostly because they were few and far between, and askimet(sp?) caught em. Also, if people chose to spam you, you must be doing something right, they want to get in on the ground floor.
What am I going to do with this new-found fame and glamor? Probably follow it up with some more t-shirt designs that I’ve been working on, like ‘Robot’s Balloons’. Also, I updated the Tags on my designs to try and make them easier to find, but when I searched all that came up was a mug – hehehe… wow. BUT, if you put “Assorted Robot Meat” into the Google-izer, I’m the first thing that pops up, so that’s very cool. Soon my devoted followers, soon there will be more shirt stuff.
Get Ready, here it comes!
Tonight’s ‘Creative Output’ is something I’ve considered doing for some time now. Selling some stuff!
I spent last night and most of today creating designs for and opening a storefront at Cafe Press.
Now you can be the first on your block to own…. this:
And other fine merch emblazoned with ‘Robot Meat’ original art.
Seriously though, I think this is a pretty big step for me. Not just to create something, and to send it out into the world, but to see if anyone will actually want to plunk down coinage for it. This year has been pretty interesting in a lot of different ways for me. One thing i decided early on in 2010 was that I would try to ramp up my creativity. I’ve done that in different ways, writing this blog on a fairly regular basis for one. And everything from my ‘Doodles of the Day’ and the more informal ‘Creative Output’ posts, pretty much the opposite of my old early 20’s approach, drawing and painting, then hiding it all in the closet.
The options available at the store are fairly limited right now, and i consider this attempt to be in Beta. As I progress and post more content I will expand the store as well. Maybe if I think there is enough interest in the store I’ll do something else with a POD site and have prints and things…. but thats getting the cart ahead of the llama, if you know what I mean!
Quick Review [Extended Edition]:
Nine Inch Nails, Pretty Hate Machine, HALO 02R (re-issue)
Its been 21 years since Trent Reznor unleashed the awesomeness that is Nine Inch Nails.
The first time
I heard a nin song it was a Halloween night in the early Nineties. The TV had been flipped to Mtv after the conclusion of a brilliant Simpson’s Treehouse of Terror. We were counting our candy and someone said, “Hey, look at that.” The video for ‘Head Like a Hole’ was playing, and I just kind of stared at it, not realizing what I was watching. My next and most relevant introduction was a few years later, senior year of High School, with the seminal release of The Downward Spiral.
But, after all the years, and all the Halos, my favorite nin album has always been Pretty Hate Machine. Reznor has promised for years that, given the chance, he would gladly sit down at the boards and remaster this album. It looked glum for a long time as TVT held tightly to the master tapes. Then Ryodisk managed to get a hold of them for a remaster in ’05… after which they apparently were locked in a vault until the bank went under and finally, early this year the lot was purchased from the failing bank and allowed to breath. A deal was struck and Reznor allowed access. Magic is what happened. Continue Reading
Something I found under a pile of stuff that was actually recovered from the Infamous Coffee Spill of the other day. If i find anything else, I’ll be sure to post it.
